An old Edmonton-Jasper Place firefighter I know has told me that this was built to be a fire hall but never used because of the conversion to motor units (rather than horse-drawn). The architecture definitely supports this and I shall follow up on it later…
This fire hall began construction in 1914 but was not completed due to the population loss in Bonnie Doon owing to World War I. Read more in the articles below.
By the 1930s the building had become the Salvation Army’s Bonnie Doon Eventide Home; as seen in the images below
