Whyte Ave appears to be far in the distance of this image of “Fifth St W” (aka 109 Street on the South Side). It appears that the streetcar tracks may have been the beginnings of this street that now is dominated by automobiles.
Circa 1913 (Reversed)
This image has been difficult to place. Brent Welch of Historic Edmonton and Northern Alberta (Facebook) noted it is possible that this is because the image is backwards. The homes on the left side of the reversed version below match the appearance and location of two heritage homes on 84 Ave. Based on the assumption that they are the same buildings, have a look at the reversed version of the image, the possible Google Streetview of the same location the image was taken and the two heritage homes on 84 Ave. This is by far not a confirmation, but it is a compelling possibility.
Google Streetview (Approximate – 2014)
Google Streetview (2015 – 84 Ave Heritage Homes)
The homes at 10835 and 10839 84 Ave seem to match the homes in the upper left background of the reversed image.
Directory Entry (1914 – 84 Ave Heritage Homes)
Note that the entries for 10835 and 10839 84 Ave seem to stand alone, as indicated by the reversed image above.
