9204 111 Ave

Finding an archival image of this building was not easy. Since I had first seen it in the early 2000s I had wondered about it. The building was clearly built in the early twentieth century but had stagnated over the years. When I worked on the original Edmonton HGIS project as an employee of the UofA I was pleased to see that the building showed up on the 1913-14 fire insurance maps but had no luck in locating a photo of it from those days (or any others). Recently, on a whim, I searched the Glenbow online collection for “Edmonton & Signs” (or something to that effect). It was only then that I came across this image. Its description mentioned no street or avenue, and so it had not appeared in my previous searches. So now, here is one of 111 Ave’s older structures as it appeared in the 1940s. It is not the 1910s, but it is a start… 🙂
